Awarding ceremony of the Dutch politicians at the Embassy of Armenia

On 16 August, a reception was held at the Embassy of Armenia in the Netherlands, attended by former and current members of the European and Dutch Parliaments, representatives of the Federation of Armenian Organizations in the Netherlands.

The reception was held in honour of Peter van Dalen and Joël Voordewind, Dutch politicians, members of the Christian Union political party, who were decorated with the state awards of the Republic of Armenia, “Medal of Gratitude”, in accordance with the relevant decrees of the President of Armenia.

Ambassador T. Balayan, handing over the awards, expressed the profound gratitude of Armenia for their significant contribution to the strengthening and developing of Armenian-Dutch friendly relations and the protection of universal values.

The Ambassador referred to the crucial role of the Christian Union political party in raising issues related to Armenia and Nagorno-Karabakh, emphasising that it is traditionally the most consistent political supporter of Armenia, the importance of which is much appreciated in this difficult situation, when a humanitarian crisis has unfolded in Artsakh, due to the illegal blockade of the Lachin Corridor by Azerbaijan.

P. van Dalen and J. Fordewind reaffirmed the commitment of Christian Union political party to the support of Armenia, which stems from the values it shares. P. van Dalen referred to the humanitarian crisis caused by the illegal blockade of the Lachin Corridor, emphasising the importance of supporting the Armenian people. J. Voordewind emphasized the need to recognize the Armenian Genocide in order to prevent such crimes.
